Canton Township-General Assistance/Relief

Description:

The Canton Township Office offers general assistance/relief programs for eligible residents. General Relief/Assistance is monthly assistance for rent, utilities, and vouchers for food/personal essentials. It is a needs-based program, and the maximum monthly grant is $325.

The Canton Township office contracts to administer General Assistance to the following townships in Fulton County (in addition to Canton): Astoria, Banner, Bernadotte, Cass, Deerfield, Fairview, Farmers, Farmington, Harris, Isabel, Joshua, Kerton, Lewistown, Liverpool, Orion, Pleasant, Union, Vermont, Waterford, and Woodland.

Also covers the following Peoria County townships:
Timber Township, Trivoli Township, Elmwood Township

Hours:

Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (closed 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm),
Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (closed 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.)

Please call for proper screening, but eligible applicants for general relief are typically people who-

-Experience a disability, cannot work, and are not yet receiving SSI/SSDI/Social Security retirement or other income
OR
-Are chronically unemployed and do not have income
