Description:

The LIHEAP (Energy Assistance) Program is comprised of four components: Low Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP), the Reconnect Assistance Program, PIPP (Percentage of Income Payment Plan) and the Emergency Furnace Program (PLEASE SEE SEPARATE PROFILE FOR THE EMERGENCY FURNACE PROGRAM, WHICH HAS DIFFERENT INTAKE/SCREENING PROCEDURES).

Eligible households must meet the income guidelines. Applicants should present proof of any income for the last 30 days, the most current utility bill, current lease or rent receipt, and Social Security cards for everyone in the household.

09/05/2024 Update:
FOR THE PRIORITY GROUPS LISTED BELOW, the next in-person Appointment Sign-Up for LIHEAP Energy Payment Assistance is Tuesday, October 1, 2024 from 8 a.m. to 10 am. or until all appointments are taken. This event will be held at Promise Academy (formerly Blaine Sumner School) at 919 S. Matthew St. in Peoria, 61605. Those interested may also call 309-999-3840 repeatedly starting at 8:00 a.m. to attempt to secure an appointment. Please note that the phone lines are extremely busy, so it can take multiple attempts to get through (and it might be impossible to get through). Some might try both the in-person and phone options in order to secure an appointment.

If homebound or in a heating emergency, please call to inquire, even if outside of appointment days.

*Disconnected or Have a Disconnection Notice, or have less than 25% in their propane tank
*Seniors age 60 and older
*Households with a member receiving disability benefits (SSI or SSDI)-SSA is NOT included
*Families with children age five and under

Required Documents:
The following must be brought to your appointments

-Verification of Gross Income (before taxes) for ALL HOUSEHOLD MEMBERS for the 30 days prior to your application date (wages, child support, Social Security Income, Proof of DHS assistance, unemployment, Township Assistance, Self-Employment income, etc.).
-Social Security Cards for all household members, including any children.
-Photo IDs for all household members 18 and older.
-Current gas and electric bills.

Eligibility:

If your household's combined income for the 30 days prior to application (gross income, before taxes are deducted) is at or below 200% of the federal poverty level, you may be eligible to receive assistance. If you rent, and your heat is included in the rent, your rent must be greater than 30% of your income to be eligible to receive assistance.
