Description:
HOPE Fair Housing Center provides information regarding fair housing rights and responsibilities, as well as advocacy. If HOPE finds that the caller is in a housing situation that might involve discrimination, a staff member will conduct an investigation. If the housing matter does not involve discrimination, HOPE can provide the caller with helpful referrals. HOPE's complaint & investigative services are FREE OF CHARGE for everyone who needs assistance.
Common Fair Housing Violations include-
*Falsely denying that housing is available for sale, rental, or inspection
*Refusal to make reasonable accommodations or modifications (an example is refusing to allow a person with a service or emotional support animal to rent property)
*Statements or advertisements that indicate a preference, limitation, or discrimination based on membership in a protected (examples include "no children," "English speaking only," or age restrictions against older populations)
In addition, policies that that may have a disparate or greater impact on one protected class group than another group may be investigated and pursued legally by HOPE. Examples include policies that target-
