Radon Mitigation
Taxonomy Code: JP-6500.1500-700
Programs that specialize in the design and installation of radon reduction systems which employ a variety of techniques, the most popular of which are active subslab suction (also known as subslab depressurization) which removes radon gas from below the concrete floor and the foundation with an exhaust fan before it can enter the home and passive subslab suction which relies on air currents instead of a fan to draw radon up from below the house. Variations on this technique include draintile suction, blockwall suction, sump hole suction and crawlspace ventilation. Other methods include sealing cracks and other openings in the foundation, house pressurization, natural ventilation and heat recovery ventilation, all of which are considered temporary or partial solutions. Selection of an appropriate remedy depends on the magnitude of the problem, the size of the home and the structure of the foundation.
