What we do:
Train service dogs of various types for disabled people and teach disabled people how to work with service dogs.
Who are our clients?
Any disabled person who believes his/her life would improve through the use of a service dog, and who meets the medical criteria as certified by his/her physician and has the capacity to house and support a service dog can apply to our program. In addition organizations may apply for a facility dog to work with clients at their location.
Where do we get the dogs?
At this time all the dogs in training have been rescued from local animal shelters or donated by selected breeders in Iowa and Illinois.
What are our programs?
The Professional Training Program provides dogs fully trained by our professional trainer to our clients. Each dog is individually trained to meet the specific needs of their partner or organization they will be working with.
How we are funded:
Our operating funds come from charitable donations and fundraising. We apply for and have received grants to support specific projects.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of Disability Assistance Dogs. Without your help we cannot complete our mission to provide trained Assistance Dogs to adults and children with a disability. We have plenty volunteer opportunities.

Mobility Assistance Service Dogs.
Description
Service Dogs are specially trained to assist a person with a disability. Service dogs perform a range of tasks depending on their individual partnerâs disability. Service dogs may accompany their partner in public places. To apply for a Service Dog, please email us and we will respond to all your questions. D.A.D. trains dogs for people and organizations in the greater Quad Cities (iowa/Illinois) Area. Mobility Assistance Dogs Mobility Assistance Dogs help people with limited physical mobility with such things as retrieving objects, pulling a wheelchair, bracing to provide additional support while going up and down stairs, helping the handler get dressed and undressed and many other tasks. Medical Response Dogs Medical Response Dogs assist their partner with immediate medical needs including seizures, diabetes, and psychiatric needs. Seizure Response Dogs assist their owners by responding appropriately when a seizure occurs. This may include going to get help, preventing injury or lying beside them to help with reorientation when they become conscious again. Some dogs learn to alert their handler prior to the oncoming seizure. Diabetes Response Dogs alert their partner to low or high blood sugar levels, retrieve juice, medications and other items as needed. Other Medical Response Dogs may be trained to perform tasks related to their partnerâs individual disability. Skills will be determined on an individual basis.

Eligibility
Anyone with a documented disability covered under the A.D.A. may qualify for a service dog. Documentation from a physician is required before starting the process, which ensures that only people with disabilities receive our dogs. The dog must aide with a disability. Before filling out the application on our site, please call David, our information director and he will help you to understand our program before you make a decision.

Companion Dogs.
Description
A companion dog is trained to assist individuals in their home. They provide unconditional love and affection to their partner who may be elderly, home-bound or have a psychiatric or other illness. Studies have shown, that people with dogs tend to live longer, are healthier, more active and feel more fulfilled. Our companion dogs are also taught to dial 911 and provide an added measure of safety. Skilled Companions A Skilled Companion Dog is also a Companion Dog, but is trained to perform specific tasks to assist their partner in their home. Skilled Companions may do many of the same tasks that a Service Dog can do, but work in the home not in public.
