Sightseeing/Guided Tours
Programs that offer guided tours which expose participants to the sights, sounds, smells and feel of life on an operating farm with the objective of creating a better understanding and appreciation of farm life. Farm features usually include a variety of domestic animals, a vegetable garden, crop fields and farm equipment. Tours allow individuals to observe and sometimes participate in regular farm activities such as cow milking, sheep shearing and wool processing. Also included are horse farms where thoroughbreds, Arabians, morgans and other types of horses are bred, raised and trained; dairy farms; and experimental farms which offer tours.
Government Buildings/Installations
Federal, state and local government buildings such as capitol buildings; Parliament buildings; local city halls; federal, state and county courthouses; the White House; governors' mansions; the FBI building; military bases; the Johnson Space Center; and the Naval Academy that are open to the public and/or provide guided tours of their facilities and grounds.
Properties that have been singled out for preservation because of their historic, architectural, archeological, engineering or cultural significance and made available to the public as historic places.
Structures such as pillars, stones or buildings that are erected and/or maintained in memory of people who have died; to preserve the remembrance of a person, event or action; or which testify to the achievements or greatness of a particular individual, nation, culture or age.
