Description

Sometimes kids, like adults, can benefit from therapy. ABC offers counseling which can help kids develop problem-solving skills and also teach them the value of seeking help. Many kids need help dealing with school stress, such as homework, test anxiety, bullying, or peer pressure. Others need help to discuss their feelings about family issues, particularly if there’s a major transition, such as a divorce, move, or serious illness. Our licensed counselors assist your child in navigating their feelings through a variety of different therapeutic techniques including art, play, sand tray, and writing to name a few.

    Description

ABC believes that adoptive parents need special preparation as they go through the adoption process. Not all prospective adoptive parents are ready to adopt, and it is important that they explore this very important issue before a child is placed in their home. Since adoptive parents actively take part in locating birth mothers who are interested in making an adoption plan, it is not the role of the agency to put restriction such as age or marital status on the adoptive parents. Birth parents usually know what kind of adoptive parents they are interested in for their child. We do not discriminate in any way.

      Description

Our Adoption Philosophy: All children deserve to have a family and that they should be given the best opportunities in life. In the same way birth parents are empowered to make choices, adoptive parents should be able to look to ABC for guidance and direction, not mandates. We do not have strict requirements like many agencies do. Successful adoptions are those in which everyone’s needs are met: the child’s, the birth parent’s, and the adoptive parent’s. ABC believes in allowing the adoptive parents and birth parents as much flexibility as possible in making the adoption plan for the child. While recognize the fact that from a legal standpoint adoptions are handled in a uniform way, each adoption is special and the circumstances surrounding it are unique.

        Description

Children served at ABC Counseling & Family Services range in age from three to eighteen. Some of the children are victims of incest; others are victims of sexual abuse by perpetrators outside of the home. Whatever the case, children react differently to sexual abuse, emotionally, and behaviorally. Some children give clear messages; others are subtle. It is our job to know what to ask, how to ask questions, and to listen to what the child has to say in a caring and compassionate way.

          Description

Between the extra hormones and the fear of the unknown, an unexpected pregnancy can be overwhelming. You do not need to go through this alone! We understand that you are experiencing emotions such as fear, shame, confusion, or a sense of isolation. We would like to help you sort through them. We are available to offer you pregnancy counseling and support as you look at options in a non-judgmental, caring atmosphere. We believe that adoption is a viable option that is often overlooked due to misconceptions. This option enables you to give your child the gift of life and to choose loving adoptive parents to nurture that life. Adoption is one of the greatest sacrifices a birth mother can make out of love for her child. Not only can you choose the adoptive family, but you can also choose the level of openness you want for future contact with your child. Choosing abortion, parenting, or adoption is a decision that will impact you for a lifetime and we want you to choose the option that is best for you and your child. We will support you, whatever your decision may be.
