Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Peoria County is a non-profit, volunteer organization that advocates for the best interests of children within the juvenile abuse and neglect court system.
Hours:
Main Office Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Intake Process:
CASA is assigned to a child only by a judge's court order. CASA can be requested for a child through the state's attorney, defense attorney, or guardian ad litem, who will submit the request to the judge.

Description
CASA of Peoria County offers opportunities for those wanting to volunteer as court-appointed special advocates representing the interests of abused, neglected, or abandoned children involved in family court proceedings.
Hours
Hours will vary based on availability of children, caseworkers, and others involved. Volunteers must commit to approximately 5 to 15 hours.
Required Documents
Driver's license or government-issued identification and Social Security card
Eligibility
-Age 21 or older
-Satisfactory CASA application and pre-service interview
-Submit to and pass background checks, which will include
---------CANTS (Child Abuse and Neglects Tracking System)
---------LEADS (Law Enforcement Detailed Summary)
---------Fingerprints (submitted to the FBI)
---------Child Abuse Registry Network
---------A valid Driver's License or government issued identification
---------Verification of social security number
-Successful completion of CASA training
-Participants cannot be current foster parents
-Commit to approximately 5-15 hours per month to CASA duties
-Commit to 10 hours of in-service (continuing education) per year
-Possess good oral and written communication skills
-Access to a computer and knowledge of word-processing programs

First, those interested must attend a General Information Meeting at the CASA office in the Peoria County Courthouse. Please e-mail casa@peoriacounty.org or call (309) 669-2939 for date and time.
An application must also be completed. It can be found here.
