Apply for a Service Academy Nomination.

Description

s your 18th District Representative in the U.S. House of Representatives, each year I will have the privilege of nominating a limited number of people to four of the five service academies (U.S. Coast Guard Academy does not require a nomination). The honor of attending a service academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation. Best wishes to you as you pursue your goal of attending one of the U.S. Service Academies and serving our country. Each spring, my office will host a Service Academy Night for junior high and high school students, their parents, and high school counselors to discover the educational and career opportunities available at the U.S. Military Service Academies. Service Academy Nights are held to allow students within the 18th Congressional District of Illinois to discuss and learn the requirements and procedures for seeking a nomination to the academies.

Students interested in a nomination should contact my Peoria office in the spring of their junior year in high school. Also, please note that it is extremely important that the student begin the application process with the academies themselves. If you would like to schedule a meeting to learn more about the academy nomination process, please feel free to contact my Peoria District office. 1)You can apply online for retirement benefits or benefits as a spouse if you: -Are at least 61 years and 9 months old; -Are not currently receiving benefits on your own Social Security record; -Have not already applied for retirement benefits; and want your benefits to start no more than 4 months in the future. (We cannot process your application if you apply for benefits more than 4 months in advance.) 2)Social Security Disability benefits: -Social Security pays benefits to people who can’t work because they have a medical condition that’s expected to last at least one year or result in death. Federal law requires this very strict definition of disability. While some programs give money to people with partial disability or short-term disability, Social Security does not.
