List of National Veterinary Care Expense Assistance Programs

Description:

Please see the list below for additional veterinary expense resources.

**For emergency veterinary situations, in addition to contacting local clinics (and seeing if they can make payment arrangements) and local assistance programs (HOI 211 tracks these, so please call 309-999-4029 if you cannot find them on this site), you might try contacting veterinary colleges to see if they can work with you. Please see the list of veterinary colleges on the following website (copy and paste): www.avma.org/education/accredited-veterinary-colleges
**Some of the national programs listed in ALL CAPS below can very occasionally help with emergency situations, but a veterinarian should be seen first.
------
**For non-emergency (and occasionally, emergency) situations, national organizations that can occasionally assist are in ALL CAPS below with accompanying descriptions. Please note that due to immense demand, it is recommended to explore several avenues at once, including checking with local veterinary clinics regarding payment arrangement, local assistance programs (HOI 211 tracks these, so please call 309-999-4029 if you cannot find them on this site), and veterinary colleges (listed here: www.avma.org/education/accredited-veterinary-colleges).

**ALSO: Crowd funding sites such as Waggle (www.waggle.org), which is specifically dedicated to helping raise money for veterinary care, can be tried.

**In addition to the specific national organization listed below in ALL CAPS, more extensive lists of national organizations and approaches for funding veterinary care can be found on the following sites:

FRIENDS & VETS HELPING PETS
Website: friendsandvetshelpingpets.org

Friends & Vets Helping Pets funds treatments for curable (lifesaving, not life-prolonging) diseases such as tumors, broken bones, ambulatory care, expensive medication, or post-surgical prosthetics such as a K-9 cart.

Friends & Vets Helping Pets does *not* fund routine vet care, diagnostics like ultrasound and MRI tests or preventative measures. The organization works on a pre-approval basis and does not fund treatments that have already occurred.

Grants are made to individuals and families whose ability to pay is extremely limited, but also to those of somewhat more substantial means, up to 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, who may only need minor subsidy to meet the veterinary expenses. Financial aid is intended as a supplement to family resources. All applicants must be prepared to show financial need.

Please visit website for application: friendsandvetshelpingpets.org

BOW WOW BUDDIES
Website: www.bowwowbuddies.com

Provides grants up to $2,500 for dogs. These grants are meant to cover necessary medical treatments for certain serious conditions and emergency services. The Bow Wow Buddies Foundation cannot provide assistance for true emergency situations where funds are needed immediately. However, an applicant may apply for a grant up to 30 days after a procedure.

The Bow Wow Buddies Foundation provides grants to:

-Families that are unable to afford necessary veterinary care and are in need of financial assistance to keep their dog healthy and in their home.

FRANKIE'S FRIENDS FUND
Website: www.frankiesfriends.org/national-frankies-friends-fund

Frankie's Friends Fund provides financial assistance grants to family owned pets in need of lifesaving emergency or specialty veterinary care whose caregivers cannot afford the full cost of treatment. This program is designed to help with the treatment of emergency and specialty medical conditions where the pet would otherwise suffer, be euthanized, or relinquished without proper veterinary care.

There is no guarantee that the fund will provide financial assistance so please do not delay care for your pet while waiting for a response on your application. Grants are not guaranteed, and will not exceed $2000.00 per pet, per household. Due to the large volume of applications received, the program is unable to help everyone who applies.

Frankie's Friends does not reimburse for payments already made and will not consider reimbursement situations of any kind. All payments are made directly to the treating veterinarian and never to an individual.

To apply, please visit: www.frankiesfriends.org/national-frankies-friends-fund

BROWN DOG FOUNDATION
Website: www.browndogfoundation.org

Brown Dog Foundation is a 501c3 public charity that works with clinics and pet (dog and cat) owners to find the best, most affordable path to saving a pet. Brown Dog seeks to bridge gaps in funding care, instead of donating a portion that leaves an unpaid balance. If Brown Dog cannot bridge the gap to save the pet, they cannot commit to financial assistance. That said, Brown Dog can also sometimes offer educational guidance and referral to lower cost treatment alternatives, creative payment alternatives and/or other programs to help you.

Please apply on website here: www.browndogfoundation.org

HOPE MENDING HEARTS
Website: www.hopemendinghearts.net

The goal of Hope Mending Hearts is to help animals who need immediate veterinary care to survive. Due to the overwhelming number of applications received, the organization unfortunately cannot help everyone. The typical grant is $100 to $200. Decisions are based upon several factors, including: medical urgency, financial need, available funding, pet eligibility and pet owner financial status.

Before Hope Mending Hearts grants can be approved, pet owners must first apply for Care Credit.

Once an application is submitted online, you can expect to receive a response via e-mail or by phone within one to two business days.

Please apply on website here: www.hopemendinghearts.net

PET ASSISTANCE, INC.
Website: petassistanceinc.org

-Veterinary care subsidies are for urgent or life-threatening emergencies only
-PAi financially helps longtime pet owners who have always cared for their pet, yet find they cannot afford an emergency problem.
-PAi cannot financially help with new or recently acquired pets, but CAN offer advice and direction.
-Grants are made based on urgency, prognosis, and financial need. The owner must contribute to their pet's treatment or surgery.
-PAi needs a written estimate from the veterinarian. If the cost is higher than the norm for the procedure, PAi cannot help.
-PAi does NOT help with unnecessary blood work, routine care, costly diagnostics (MRIs, CT scans, etc.) or ongoing illness.
-PAi does not financially help once a procedure has been done.
-PAi aid often comes in the form of guidance, advice and referrals. This alone has saved pet owners thousands of dollars.
