Alcohol Related Harm Reduction Programs

Taxonomy Code: RX-8470.0500

Programs that provide services which employ treatment strategies other than abstinence in order to reach and help individuals with severe alcohol use disorders, particularly those who are homeless and/or may be using unsafe sources of liquor such as industrial products. Included are community and hospital based programs, and "wet" shelters that allow limited and monitored use of alcohol. The focus is on minimizing the negative consequences of drinking and improving health, diet and quality of life without emphasizing sobriety or reduction in use.
